Expanded Form and Multiplication

This week.
This week in math we will be learning some multiplication methods for 2-4 digit numbers times one digit numbers. Here is what we will be doing!
Monday: Lesson 2.6 Expanded Form Models
Here students use a model very similar to a distributive property model to break a large number into smaller multiplication problems.
40

   3

200

For example:  243 x 6=

1,200

240

18
    6

1,200 + 240 + 18= 1,458
By breaking the problem up into expanded form it makes the problem much simpler!
The rest of the week we will be doing a similar process but will gradually break away from models and move into the standard algorithm.  If I feel it is confusing I will post again later this week.
