This week we have been doing lots of geometry! Yesterday we learned how to classify quadrilaterals, we have learned about polygons, rays, line segments, lines, and angles. We have even learned how to classify triangles by looking at their angles. This week we are working with symmetry and pattern problem solving. We will have a test on Friday to finish up our geometry unit. I am including some fun links for symmetry games. Symmetry is ALL around us! Have your student practice by looking for symmetry in the world around us. Look at words, signs, and art. Look for symmetry while you are shopping or driving. You'll be suprised at how often you can find it!

Another week....
Hopefully you have all felt math get a little easier the past couple of weeks! Most of the students have done great on our Chapter 9 test so look for those to come home with great scores! If your student brings home a test that says "fix and return" please go over those problems with them. Let your student rework the problems. Please don't give them the answer or show them how to find the correct answer let them work it out and show you how to do it. Assist as needed but let them become patient problem solvers. It is hard for us as parents and teachers to let them struggle but I promise they will learn and retain the information better if we can let them find the answers. Here is what we are doing this week!

This week...
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your patience as we started our new math homework program. I know that there were some frustrations with the Soar to Success Program. Thank you for working through the bugs. This week students will have no more than 2 assignments. Hopefully this will help them have the time they need to get it done. Also, if the student misses more than 3 questions on the quiz at the end it will have them start all over. Encourage your student to use scratch paper to work out the problems and take their time. Thanks again!
Here is my planner for this week! Let me know if you have any questions.
Monday: Lesson 9.5 Problem Solving with Money Homework: Mid Chapter Checkpoint page 363-364
Tuesday: Lesson 9.6 Add Fractional Parts Homework: Finish any center work not completed in class
Wednesday: Lesson 9.7 Compare Decimals Homwork: None
Thursday: Lesson 9.7 Compare Decimals and Review Chapter 9 Homework: Practice book page P183-P184
Friday: Chapter 9 Test Homework: None
